Ottawa, Ontario--(Newsfile Corp. - February 1, 2023) - Lewis Eisen has announced that he will be one of the headline speakers at the second edition of the Annual Information Governance Leadership summit. The summit is scheduled to be held at the Horton Grand Hotel in San Diego on March 30 and 31. A similar virtual workshop will be held on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of March.
Lewis Eisen is the headline speaker on the first day of the summit and will be speaking on the subject "Drafting Effective Information Governance Policies'. Lewis Eisen is a policy drafting expert who specializes in guiding policy writers in drafting perfect policies through workshops and presentations.
Commenting on his participation in the program, Lewis Eisen, best selling author and policy drafting expert says, "Companies will see better results when they draft policies and rules that are respectful and welcomed by others in the organization. Most people grow up never learning how to write rules directed to adults, and this includes people in the field of information governance.
My workshop will deal with the drafting of policies for those working in the field of information and records management. This can refer to those dealing with all the information an organization has on their computers, as well as those who deal with privacy and the freedom of Information. All of the different stakeholders in these groups have their own policies, and at the summit the focus will be on aligning these policies for maximum effectiveness."
According to Lewis Eisen, the challenge for every organization lies in finding the perfect balance, moving away from a prison-like policy culture with an emphasis on command and control, where there are hundreds of rules, towards a more collaborative culture. The language in policies should not come across as untrusting or defensive, but should have a tone that encourages compliance rather than threatening consequences. The policies in an organization are closely tied to its core values. Many organizations choose their values very haphazardly, which has a negative impact from the top down. Having good corporate values is key to drafting rules that people want to follow.
During his session at the summit, Lewis Eisen will work with delegates in a practical and hands on manner on techniques for rewording existing policies, putting documents together, and making key decisions about the kind of culture that the leaders participating in the summit want in their organizations. Many leaders fear that they might lose control if they follow a more collaborative approach. During the session, the focus will be on those factors that hold leaders back from creating a more open collaborative policy environment.
As part of his session, Eisen will deal with a series of 10 topics. Short talks on each topic will be interspersed with exercises for the participants related to each topic. The session will begin with examining different challenges that policy makers face today and close with techniques to get more buy-in on the drafting of respectful policies when these leaders return to their organizations.
Concluded Lewis Eisen, "At the summit, my focus would be on training the leaders in information governance and helping them develop the right mindset for drafting and implementing a policy system that works in their organization and meets the expectations of today's workforce. Delegates will participate in hands-on exercises to refine their policy drafting skills and review numerous examples of both good and bad policies. For example, I will get participants to look at policies and identify what needs to be removed because it sends a negative message or imposes a parent-child dynamic. We will identify techniques to reword policies so that we eliminate aggressive language. The emphasis needs to shift from drafting a set of do's and don'ts to setting standards that an organization wants to achieve and the manner in which they can be achieved. Policies serve as the route map to get there."
