Toronto, Ontario--(Newsfile Corp. - March 9, 2023) - With the cost of living rising across Canada, national charity Outward Bound Canada (OBC) has added a new scholarship fund for 2023 as it opens applications for financial assistance scholarships for its cross-courses. OBC, a leading provider of outdoor experiential education for youth, recognizes the crucial importance of making its life-changing programs accessible to as many youth in Canada as possible.
"OBC's courses connect youth with nature while providing opportunities to develop social-emotional and leadership skills that will benefit them in school, in the community and in the future workplace," says Andrew Young, OBC executive director. "Our funded programs remove financial barriers to create opportunities for youth, at a time when parents may feel such high-quality activities are unaffordable."
OBC's financial aid and scholarship system is based on an assessment process that takes into account each applicant's individual circumstances.
In addition to OBC's Youth Access Fund, scholarships are also available for Black youth, Indigenous youth, and youth who self-identify as People of Colour, thanks to RBC. And new in 2023 is a W. Brett Wilson-funded fund that provides full scholarships to youth whose parents or guardians are serving or have served in the Canadian Forces. Funds for all OBC financial assistance come from the generous support of its donor community.
"In 2022, we funded nearly 70 per cent of our participants. Demand for our funding has continued to grow as many Canadian families struggle with the rising costs of food and rent. Thanks to our community of donors, we can deliver a unique opportunity for many youth to experience some of Canada's most pristine places, but more importantly, to gain essential skills for success in life," says Andrew Young.
Funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. To avoid disappointment, OBC encourages applicants to apply by May 14, 2023. Visit www.outwardbound.ca to learn more about the financial assistance options available.
