Workplace Revolution discussion will educate attendees on alternative education pathways, how to reskill existing teams and create more flexibility and autonomy in team cultures
Austin, Texas--(Newsfile Corp. - March 10, 2023) - At SXSW 2023, leaders from a software giant, IBM, and a trailblazing mobility startup, Dealerware, will share the unique experiences that shaped their careers as women leading technical teams, and how that's influenced the approaches to talent management. A cutthroat labor market and uncertainty in the economy have made finding, nurturing and keeping technical employees a bigger factor than ever in overall business success.
Date: Monday, March 13, 2023
Time: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. CT
Location: JW Marriott Salon 2-4
Speakers:
- Denise Iglesias, Executive Vice President of Engineering for Dealerware
- Mirella Batista, Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM
"Our teams count on us to look to the future and proactively adapt to change. We want to give SXSW attendees better ways to find talent outside traditional pipelines, then nurture team members to build new skill sets and advance in their careers to become tomorrow's leaders," said Denise Iglesias, EVP of Engineering at Dealerware.
"Diversity of thought creates better software outcomes, but creating diverse teams is still a challenge for a lot of leaders who only have experience with one model - a school-to-work pipeline - for finding talent. We want to show hiring managers other models that work so that their hiring search includes talented, driven individuals with non-traditional educations and experiences," said Mirella Batista, Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM.
In addition to new strategies for finding talent, attendees will learn multiple strategies for developing new skills in their existing teams, a topic Batista has written about on her blog and spoken about at events like Women Who Code Austin's diversity hackathon.
Iglesias will also share how, since joining Dealerware in 2021, she has helped the team adapt to the changing realities of work to maintain flexibility, autonomy and transparency. Those efforts earned Dealerware a Best Place to Work award from Built In Austin in 2022, and helped Iglesias grow her team more than 70% over the last three years.
A Q&A session will follow Iglesias and Batista's talk. Members of the press in attendance are encouraged to visit the speakers at the conclusion of the talk or may reach out to Dealerware's media contact to arrange interviews.
