WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Tinder has recently unveiled a cutting-edge tool known as 'Photo Selector' that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to enhance the photo selection process for user profiles on its popular online dating platform.
This innovative feature prompts users to capture a selfie within the app and grant access to their camera roll. Subsequently, Tinder's AI technology employs advanced facial recognition capabilities to curate a variety of images for users to consider adding to their profiles.
The AI system has been meticulously programmed to evaluate and select photos based on a range of criteria such as optimal lighting and composition. Leveraging insights gleaned from effective profile pictures, the Photo Selector is envisioned to facilitate the creation of dating profiles with greater ease, thereby allowing users to focus on building meaningful connections.
According to Tinder, a survey conducted among 18 to 25-year-olds revealed that users typically spend approximately 33 minutes choosing a suitable profile picture, a task that the new feature aims to streamline significantly, reports TechCrunch.
To ensure inclusivity and precision while adhering to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion standards, the AI has been trained on a diverse dataset. Furthermore, it effectively filters out images that contravene guidelines, such as those containing explicit content. Addressing privacy concerns, Tinder has assured users that the AI tool 'doesn't collect or store photos from your device except the one you choose to post.'
Following nearly a year of rigorous testing, Tinder has confirmed that the Photo Selector feature will be imminently available to users in the US, with a global rollout slated for later this summer.
